22/04/2009 - West Country Digital Switchover With the final stage of digital TV switchover in Torbay and south Devon on course for completion in April 2009, a total of 338,000 households served by the Beacon Hill transmitter group will benefit from the extended digital terrestrial television (Freeview) coverage. For the past year Digital UK Retail Support Executives, deployed and managed by Field Marketing Agency Gekko, have been in the region and have visited over 455 stores, training 759 retail staff for the biggest change in television since the introduction of colour TV services in the late 1960s. The completion of this digital switchover will make it possible to extend the reach of Freeview coverage to 96 per cent of households in the West Country TV region. According to the latest Digital UK mystery shopping results, the RSE team, through delivery of an accredited and structured training programme, have enabled over 85% of West Country retailers to explain switchover very effectively to their customers.
