16/07/2010 - Encouraging Retail Sales Good weather, early summer clearances and the World Cup helped to boost UK retail sales in June. Total sales values were 3.4 per cent ahead of those a year ago and up 1.2 per cent on a like-for-like basis, according to the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC’s) Retail Sales Monitor. The World Cup played it’s part in the electricals sector, a sector that performed better than many. With widespread promotions and competition from brands such as Toshiba, the World Cup drove strong sales of TVs, especially of those with larger screen sizes.
